I visited Laax/Flims in 1998, so more than a decade has passed. With that in mind, take these comments as impressions rather than up-to-date guidance.
My impression was that it is a very solid ski resort. The infrastructure stood out immediately: the gondolas were excellent, the chairlifts were fast and comfortable, and the slopes felt long, varied, and enjoyable. I especially remember the wide pistes and the winding valley runs.
After the first day, I switched from snowboarding back to skiing because I could not find any fun parks. That may well have changed, though, as a trusted friend recently recommended the resort specifically for snowboarding.
Most of the slopes were great for relaxed cruising, and my sense was that the area suited intermediate skiers particularly well—although I may simply have missed some of the more demanding runs. I also remember plenty of pistes weaving close to the trees, which always adds to the experience for me. The scenery was uplifting, the mountain restaurants were impressive, and the snow quality was very good considering it was late March to early April.
What surprised me was the lack of an après-ski scene, especially compared with Austrian resorts. I was also less taken by the village itself: it felt spread out, lacked the cosy atmosphere many alpine resorts have, and often left hotels a fairly long walk from the lifts.
In short, Laax/Flims is a large and well-equipped ski area with plenty of variety. Its infrastructure impressed me more than that of many other European resorts, even if the resort as a whole was not quite the right fit for my personal taste because of the disconnect between the ski area and the village atmosphere.
