Chamonix, France

Chamonix, a major name in European skiing, offers a diverse range of options.  From glacier skiing to heli-skiing, it’s hard to find such variety elsewhere.

The resort boasts vast ski runs catering to all tastes.  One of the French Alps’ advantages is its high-altitude resorts, increasing snow chances.  The snow park is particularly impressive, with bumps for all levels and extreme options for thrill-seekers.

The downtown area is quite big. A bit different from chalet-style Austrian resorts. It is similar to Kitzbühel in terms of size, though. The Chamonix centre is quite distant from some of the nearby villages. On the other hand, this scale gives you the flexibility to find more options in downtown. The restaurants are really good. From the classical fondue experience to the steakhouses, there is something for everyone. Even the pizza was extremely delicious, probably due to the fact that it is so close to Italy. Even the small street shops, like confectionaries and bakeries, were true ambassadors of the world-famous French cuisine.

Nightlife is also one of the strengths of Chamonix.  Quite interestingly, we found it hard to find a place really crowded, but then again, it wasn’t the peak of the season. One other thing about Chamonix is that it is very close to both Italy and Switzerland. For a day off skiing, we passed through the Mont Blanc Tunnel and visited Italy, for instance.

To sum up, Chamonix is a big, full-activity skiing resort that has many amenities and qualities.
