I’ve been skiing since childhood and briefly joined a high school team as a licensed skier in 1995. I couldn’t resist the growing popularity of snowboarding and gave it a try. For five to six years, I carried both my skiing and board gear everywhere, but I eventually found myself spending more time snowboarding than skiing.
I used to be a skier with a strong motivation. While skiing, I occasionally sought an adrenaline rush. However, I don’t like taking unnecessary risks and avoid those situations. Time passed, and so did my twenties. My motivation to improve my skiing and snowboarding skills waned.
But now I’ve discovered a more valuable reason for skiing: the sheer joy of being close to those beautiful mountains. Whether it’s the Alps, Pirañas, Whistler in British Columbia, or the local mountains like Kartalkaya, Uludag, or Palandoken in my home country Turkey, I get immense satisfaction from enjoying the views and scenery. There’s no other feeling quite like watching a fire in the evening after a day of sports with a glass of wine.
Catching up with friends in this beautiful environment is another bonus. After all, isn’t that what we all want? To indulge ourselves while staying fit, surrounded by loved ones. In such holidays, everything becomes so simple and peaceful. That’s why I love ski holidays. That’s why I felt compelled to share my experiences with you. I believe I’ve travelled enough to offer some tips for skiing and snowboarding, as well as advice on enjoying the leisure aspect of the activity. I hope you find them helpful in planning your next holiday.
