Saalbach, Austria

Saalbach is special for me. It was my first time in Austrian Alps and the year was 1995. Being a teenager at that time I was full of energy and ambition to improve my skiing. The area is really good for this motive, at least I felt like that. I find the slopes fantastic at that time because there are vast number of pistes available for your taste. I think in terms of the number of runs, this area has one of the highest number compared with any European resort. I should add that majority of those pistes are suitable for the ambitious intermediates.

One other reason Saalbach impressed me was because of the excellent snow conditions. Even in the downtown everywhere was in white. The village is a traditional Austrian resort. It lies in a valley and both side of the village are ski runs. Saalbach is also famous with its après ski and nightlife.

I have to say I wasn’t at the age to benefit from those opportunities at that time but still I remember the dynamism the place had. One other thing I liked about the place is, it was possible to make a long run, many km’s long and while you are skiing you can stop and relax in many of the very well organised restaurants. I remember many of them had great scenery… The only thing that I will warn you about is the altitude of the resort. The area is low in altitude and many of the ski runs face south,  it would be a wise decision to check the snow conditions before your trip. If you make booking months in advance, it’s better if you check the past data regarding average snow distribution as of months.
